CREA Monitoring NAR Settlement Announcement

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) is closely monitoring the announcement from the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) that it has agreed to settle its class action(s) by paying $418 million and eliminating its rules on commissions that were the subject of the actions. There are different legal and factual circumstances between Canada’s litigation and the matter in the United States. Canada’s ongoing litigation is still before the courts. As this information broke, we were at the 2024 Joint Association Executives (AE) Institute in San Diego, CA, hearing alongside our association colleagues from across North America. We anticipate meeting with NAR leadership next week and will be reviewing their agreement. We appreciate this is something not only of keen interest to the REALTOR® association community but many stakeholders and will be publishing the statement below on CREA.ca.The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) is closely monitoring today’s announcement from the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) that it has agreed to settle its class action(s) by paying $418 million and eliminating its rules on commissions that were the subject of the actions.
